Ultrasound scanning is a method that obtains images of internal body organs through the use of high-frequency sound waves which are recorded and displayed as images on a monitor. Ultrasound is used to diagnose multiple body parts to identify fibroids, kidney stones, causes of uterine bleeding and other medical conditions. Images are captured in real time and therefore show the movement of internal tissue, body organs, blood flows, and heart valve functions and the condition of embryo and fetus in pregnant women.

What Are the Advantages Of An Ultrasound?
Ultrasounds do not use X-Ray radiation, images are in real-time, showing the internal organs as well as the movement of those organs. Blood flow can be measured in both volume and speed. Most notable, are that Ultrasounds are non-invasive and require no radiation.
Preparation for Ultrasound
The preparation for an ultrasound varies for the part to be examined. Preparation instructions will be given when the exam is scheduled. Comfortable clothing is recommended, and as always please bring your orders, insurance card, and identification.
For an Abdominal, Liver, GB, or Pancreas ultrasound please fast for 6 hours after a light meal.
For a Pelvis, Prostate, OB, Bladder, or Renal ultrasound please drink 32 ounces or 2 bottles of water 30 minutes prior to your exam. DO NOT empty your bladder, as a full bladder is necessary for this exam.
Exam Time
Most Ultrasound exams will last approximately 20-40 minutes.
Exam Results
After your exam, the radiologist will review your images and a report will be sent directly to your physician. Reports are available within 24 to 72 hours.
